Dopo tante polemiche e discussioni sulla introduzione dei video su Flickr, servizio che ha costruito la propria identità sul mondo della fotografia, è stata introdotta questa possibilità.
Come viene spiegato nella pagina delle FAQ, i video in Flickr sono stati introdotti con una filosofia particolare: i video sono limitati in lunghezza in 90 secondi e sono visti come naturali estensioni delle foto, come istanti di alcuni momenti della nostra vita: niente video interminabili con cui ammorbare amici e parenti, ma solo il succo.
Una filosofia che in parte accontenta gli oppositori di questa soluzione che secondo molti avrebbe sminuito il servizio. Altri invece stanno già criticando il taglio dei video che superano il limite dei 90 secondi: questa limitazione, se non altro, dovrebbe tenere lontano chi penserà di utilizzare questo servizio per caricare materiale protetto da copyright.
Per il resto i video vengono trattati come le foto, sia nelle visualizzazioni che vede i video insieme alle foto, che come categorizzazione (tag e geotag): nella ricerca avanzata è possibile anche scremare i risultati per tipologia.
I video sono caricabili solo dagli utenti Pro (25$ all’anno) ma sono visibili a tutti gli utenti: il classico e minimalista player permette poi di essere integrato in una pagina web.
Adesso aspettiamoci una integrazione con Jumpcut, servizio di editing video online acquisito da Yahoo! in questi stessi giorni di due anni fa.
Gli utenti di Pownce sappiano che possono già postare dei video semplicemente indicando il link del video: il servizio si occuperà di pubblicare il player del video all’interno del vostro messaggio.
